Music speeds recovery from stroke: study - Yahoo! News
Music speeds recovery from stroke: study - Yahoo! News: "A daily dose of one's favourite pop melodies, classical music or jazz can speed recovery from debilitating strokes, according to a study published Wednesday.
When stroke patients in Finland listened to music for a couple of hours each day, verbal memory and attention span improved significantly compared to patients who received no musical stimulation, or who listened only to stories read aloud, the study reported."

Sadgasm
Homer invented Grunge
(aka guitar rock utilizing nihilist grunge energies)
It doesn't get any better than the Simposon referencing Nirvana and Back to the Future at the same time.

Popcorn Superhet Reciever

Beautiful show last night at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle (Columbus & 60th). I, of course, was drawn to the show for its US premiere of RH's jonny greenwood's Popcorn Superhet Reciever. More impressive was Gavin Bryars Sinking of the Titanic (1969) which was performed under an oceanesque blue lighting display at the front of the chuch.
One of his earliest pieces, The Sinking of the Titanic (1969), is an indeterminist work which allows the performers to take a number of sound sources related to the sinking of the RMS Titanic and make them into a piece of music. The first recording of this piece appeared on Brian Eno's Obscure Records in 1975. The 1994 recording of this piece was remixed by the Aphex Twin as "Raising the Titanic" (later collected on the 26 Mixes for Cash album). [Wiki]

Jonny Greenwood was hired by the BBC as its composer in residence in May 2004, a job which gave him the opportunity to compose several pieces for symphony orchestra, piano and/or Ondes Martenot: smear, Piano for Children and Popcorn Superhet Receiver. [Wiki]
And of course Jonny wasn't there...he was busy: 93 Feet East Gig

Black Keys + Danger Mouse = Fantasmic!
Pitchfork: The Black Keys Reveal Danger Mouse-Produced Album: "And while in theory, the thought of a Danger Mouse-produced Black Keys record brings to mind a bunch of electronic beats and sound pastiches slapped on stripped-down garage rawk, it's a credit to Danger Mouse as a producer that he manages mostly to stay out of the way of the jams, except for a few little flourishes here and there."

Amazon & The Coming Change to The Music Business
Amazon Helping To Change The Business Of Music [Techcrunch.com]:
"But Amazon may be doing more than anyone else to change the way music is discovered, promoted and sold. Not only do they have a music store that only sells DRM-free music, but they are experimenting with startups who are trying to break the stranglehold that labels have on discovering, promoting and marketing new artists. These startups are giving artists a different path to find their fans. And Amazon is helping them."

WIRED: David Byrne and Thom Yorke on the Real Value of Music
But people will still pay to have that experience. You create a community with music, not just at concerts but by talking about it with your friends. By making a copy and handing it to your friends, you've established a relationship. The implication is that they're now obligated to give you something back.
