Tiesto feat. Jonsi of Sigur Ros [Pitchfork]

I'm a HUGE Sigur Ros fan so I wanted to help promote a new Tiesto track featuring lead singer Jónsi Birgisson. Of course I started this post about 2 min. into listening to it and like most 'techno-esque' songs, I still had 5 1/2 minutes to go. Now that doesn't mean its horrible...it just means that its a techno song, which at my age is starting to get less and less interesting. Jónsi's part is of course wonderful and perfect for this type of collaboration but I don't know if I can handle 7 1/2 minutes of boom-ist-boom-ist-boom-ist...I am interested to hear the other tracks from Tiesto that feature Bloc Party's Kele Okereke and Metric's Emily Haines. I will be seeing Metric and Phoenix at the Greek Wednesday night! Tiesto's album will be on iTunes tomorrow.

Waiting for new SIGUR ROS!

"Sigur rós have been at work in their sundlaugin studio in álafoss the past few weeks recording a full length album, which is now nearing completion. the recordings have been going very well and that the album is taking form as a slower and more ambient record…. he also describes the music as melodic but much less noisy and more “out there” than previous albums. the album does not have a release date set but is expected to be released sometime next year."

Wow! Didn't realize that they were back to work so fast...excellent news! I sorta enjoy the Riceboy Sleeps album (Jonsi's bf's) - talk about AMBIENT! But I am looking forward to Jonsi's solo work. Man those Icelandic people keep busy...

Sigur Rós Play Endlessly [Pitchfork]

ONE WEEK ONLY: Sigur Rós: We Play Endlessly

The Icelandic band play with a full orchestra, weather a tornado scare, and rock out to the "Numa Numa" song in this 2008 behind-the-scenes feature. The 48-minute piece is presented in its entirety.

sigur rós @ Copley Hall in San Diego

Sigur Ros...now armed with confetti canons

Yet another amazing show from our Icelandic friends Sigur Rós. I always enjoy seeing them in more classical venues where their sound can really envelope you from every angle and Copley Hall in Downtown San Diego came through. If you are a fan, and have never seen SR live...you aren't a fan really are you? If you don't know SR very well, go to see them live and your world will change. They really put on an epic, moving, transcendent show. I may have to go out on a limb and say I would see Sigur Rós over Radiohead...I know, bite my tongue. Its true though...atleast for this past tour...SR gave me goosebumps, and RH did not. [BTW, happy belated 40th Thom!] Please enjoy my (reverb-filled) video montage from the show...

And don't forget my MUCH better video from their Heima Q&A performance last year at the New Yorker Festival.

Shot live at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City on Icelandic Independence Day, Sigur Rós @ MoMA is a unique concert film highlighting new material from the band's latest album, 'Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust', as well as classic Sigur Rós songs."
Dang I wanted to go to this show so bad. I really liked MOMA and I really love Sigur Ros. Missed it by 1 day.

The New Sigur Ros

After listening to the stream/rip of Sigur Ros' new LP, Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust, I have to say I'm pretty pleased. Being a huge SR fan gave me very high expectations...which at first were a bit underwhelmed by the first single "Gobbledigook" (only because it was so different - thankfully it has really grown on me). The next song to be "released" (via BBC radio) was "Festival" which is quite amazing. But having listened to it 100 times I've now moved on to my current favorite, Inn mr syngur vitleysingur.

Best wishes go out to Orri who had a massive headache turn into something worse during their second show in Mexico. And rumor is they will be at the Greek (in LA) on Oct. 2nd. I hope they play 2 nights as I...uh...will be at the Neil Diamond show at the Hollywood Bowl. If only they co-headlined with the Neil.
