The Bacon Show
wow...what a promise! Considering the fact that this guy HAS to be a fan of bacon, I'm pretty sure he's not going to be living "FOREVER". I wonder if he'll force his piglets...I mean children...to carry on the tradition.

Radiohead T-shirt Contest
Radiohead T-shirt contest: Deadline closing soon
As reported earlier, at Synthetic Apparatus you can enter their Radiohead t-shirt design contest. Make sure to send your design(s) in before July 27th at Midnight CST. Good luck! Or just check Synthetic Apparatus to vote for your favourite designs.
So this is what I came up with tonight...not great but it will do. A simple shirt for my favorite, simple song "I Will" which has the lyrics 'white elephants, sitting ducks"...hence my choice of design. I think I read somewhere that the lyric may reference a line from a Hemingway short story about Spanish mountains looking like white elephants sitting down. Hmm...sitting down or sitting ducks, I don't know.
If and when my shirt gets accepted, it will get voted on. The people with the highest ratings and comments win $100 and their shirt...so if and when it gets accepted, if anyone cares to vote for me...well, I'd let you borrow my shirt and everything.

Hoover's greatest...
Watching a VERY good Hoover High basketball team in a summer league game at UCSD. I was #41 at Hoover...so not only did they NOT retire my number...they saw fit to give it to two players. I guess that just means it takes TWOpeople to fill my shoes.

Where's George?

Got the standard 2 Chicken Pita Sandwiches at the new Zankou Chicken in West LA for lunch today. As I was putting my change away, I noticed that one of the dollar bills had a red stamp around one of the symbols saying something about a 'Currency Tracking Study'.
Where's George? is a site that tracks money by the zip code entered by each person who finds the bill. Kinda intersting idea...
According to my Where's George? Bill Tracking Report:
One Dollar Bill, Serial# J2001---0Q Series: 1995
This bill has travelled 5.7 Miles in 10 Days, 1 Hr, 58 Mins at an average of 0.57 Miles per day.

Nobody really knows. "It's a totally open question in the law," says Neal Katyal, a professor of criminal law at Georgetown University. "There are arguments on both sides."

I'll have the Coco Crisp Roll please...

I like the description on the main page:
"Made with the finest chocolate, delectable flavorings and crisp rice cookies instead of raw fish, vinegar, and rice."
Ah...it DOES sound better!! Too bad it may taste like crap...

Aloha!
Hiked the Na Pali Coast today...absolutely amazing. Took the Kalalau Trail to a secluded beach where the cold river water mixes with the warm Pacific Ocean. Then we hiked up into interior Hanakapiai Valley to see its 300-foot waterfall. I made myself jump into the water under the waterfall and it was quite the religious experience. The long 7 hour hike made us very tired...but very happy.
It's golf tomorrow, the wedding rehearsal, and then the wedding on Sunday. I'll recap later...
Aloha!

Doves @ The Wiltern
Setlist (As far as 'someone on the messageboard' remembers):
Where We're Calling FromPlus they had a great lighting setup and my favorite at concerts: random videos playing in the background. I've officially added "Director of Random Concert Visuals/Videos" to the career list (the dreamy, not so serious career list). Where else can you force people to watch your film about birds sitting on a telephone wire or about 1970's russian youths who wear tank tops and bellbottoms and breakdance like gumby?

Getaway Thursday: chadWAYS
This weekend's festivites are in honor of my high school buddy's departure. In less than a month, young Chad will officially move out of bachelordom and into MarriedLand. Oh how the mighty have fallen. After a flight to SF and a birthday dinner for our buddy Joe, 10 of us will take off tomorrow in a 30' RV. Thankfully, we have liqour-fearing mormon as our lifetime designated driver.
Anyhow, apparently someone enjoyed the movie Sideways a bit too much as our first stop will be in Napa Valley for a bit o' wine tasting. I'm actually pretty excited about seeing Napa. My sister went there and her pic's were beautiful. That and I'm eager to visit the birthplace of Mark "Big Dog" Devany. (You might remember him from such classic reality shows as BLIND DATE). From there its on to Lake Tahoe for some lake fun (boat, bbq, etc.) at our buddy's house. I haven't been to Tahoe since I was a wee toddler so I'm looking forward to seeing it once again. I think overall, hanging out with my buddies in an RV should be a good time. I'll let you know how it goes. Thank god I recently bought a 1GB card for my camera...I'm pretty sure I can take 1024 pictures of the inside of an RV.
Question of the day:
This all makes me wonder...when and where was the FIRST bachelor party? Who started this tradition? Maybe strippers invented it much like Hallmark invented Valentine's day.

Et Tu Simpson's?
From the episode "Home Away from Homer" (5/15/05)
[While leaving a theater bored after viewing a foreign film with Lisa]
BART: I was so bored I cut the ponytail off the guy sitting in front of us. Look at me, I'm a grad student. I'm 30 years old and I made $600 last year.
MARGE: Bart, don't make fun of grad students. They just made a terrible life choice.
:( I mean, I started realizing that for myself about 3 years ago but it hurts when THE show you admire reminds you that your life sucks. I guess I'll be spending my Sundays at 8pm watching Extreme Home Makeover. Ty wouldn never hurt my feelings. (Oh, and FYI, I don't have a pony tail)

Radiohead News
Radiohead News: "New album not out before February 2006
Radiohead are working on 15 songs at the moment with two of them described as 'already done and amazing', Green Plastic reports. The band first got together back in January and Thom played a bunch of his new songs for the others. Having never heard the songs before, the rest of the band just jumped in and started adding their own parts.
The whole recording process has been described as 'unorganized' and very different than the way Radiohead has recorded before. The new album should be finished by December with a release date in Februay or March 2006. Touring will possibly begin in February 2006."

My Gift to Myself: Canon Powershot A510
So I made somewhat of an impulse purchase yesterday...I bought me a brand, spankin' new digital camera. I've been wanting a nice one for a long time now and I found a good one at a good price ($170...thanks Dell!) so I bit the bullet. Besides I deserve it :)
Oooh and I just realized I'm almost 6 days away from my half birthday (Cinco de Mayo)...yet another justification for buying myself a gift. Cuz on your half birthday, who else will buy you a present other than yourself?
I decided on the A510 after checking out Steves-digicams.com ... a great site with extremely thorough reviews of digital cameras. Not only does the site have detailed description of every aspect of the cameras and links to the best prices but it also has a pretty cool quicktime VR tour that lets you rotate each camera so you can see every angle. This of course comes in handy for that friend who only buys a camera because its "cute" and comes in "my favorite color RED!"
UPDATE: Got the camera and I made the right choice. The Canon A510 is a great camera for anyone who wants to mess around with some of the manual settings and pretend they are Ace from the LoveBoat (ooh, my first Ted McGinley reference...nice!) And for $170 you aren't going to find a smaller function with such great features. I get by with the 3.2 megapixels but they have a 5.0 megapixel version (the A520) for a bit more.

A Night w/ The Amazing Race

Traveling 72,000 miles across six continents in only 29 days, "The
Amazing Race" is a two-time Emmy® winner and one of the most
logistically challenging productions ever mounted. The contestants,
producers and crew utilize hundreds of airline flights, buses, trains
and cars, and employ thousands of people worldwide during each race.
Join us for an evening with some of these amazing people and see just
what it takes to run "The Amazing Race."
Panel scheduled to include:
Bertram van Munster, Executive Producer / Co-Creator
Elise Doganieri, Co-Creator & Supervising Producer
Jonathan Littman, Executive Producer
Lynne Spillman, Casting Director
Phil Keoghan, Host
...plus special appearances by some of your favorite past teams from
"The Amazing Race!"
moderated by Dennis Miller
-----------
Other highlights:
- Learned a lot about the show from Phil, the Exec. Producers and the casting director...
(before AR, Phil was up against Jeff Probst for the Survivor job) - Got enterained by Dennis Miller who apparently obsesses over AR
- Got to watch the audition tapes for some of the teams that made it on the show (Brian and Greg, season 7 brothers, did a full on edited skit that was pretty funny...one of them in bed with 2 girls, miami vice music, break dancing at the Venice Beach boardwalk -they crack me up)
- Teams that showed up:
Oh yeah, and then afterward I went to the Chimneysweep and had a beer all by myself because SOMEbody stood me up.

Nokia's N91 Targets iPod

- from PCmag.com:
"Without a doubt, the star of the show was the N91 music phone, which has a 4-GB hard drive, Wi-Fi, and Microsoft Media Player 10, making it the first fruit of the Nokia-Microsoft alliance. You can download songs onto the phone via Wi-Fi, USB 2.0, or EDGE cellular networks; the N91 appears on your desktop as a hard drive and also syncs to your desktop Windows Media Player. "
Finally a nice phone with wi-fi. Plus its a Symbian series 60 phone like my current beloved/ugly 3650. I'm a big fan of Symbian because unlike most phones which have a more static operating system, Symbian allows you to install new (more useful) applications to your phone.
Insert YOU ARE A GEEK comments here...
UPDATE: Even more good news...the phone has a 2 Megapixel camera too. Man, I honestly don't think there is anything else I would need. Now I just need to make a crapload of money in the next 6 months so I can justify buying it for the $6-700 it's probably gonna cost.

Ah...27 flat inches of The View
In a normal-sized apartment, the fact that it's quite heavy and quite large would be considered a good thing. In my half-a-dorm room of an apartment...well, the TV is quite a dominating force. Let's just say I now feel like I live in one of the theaters at the Beverly Center...but with less room. If only I had enough room to entertain my 8 generous referrals.
If anyone (especially my 5 and 8 dear friends) are interested in following through on these deals for themselves, let me know...I have much experience and wisdom to impart. The keys? The $10 Blockbuster trial and the free eFax offer. And oh yeah, make sure your referrals have unique IP addresses.

Doves: Some Cities (Feb 21- 2005)
I've been listening to the new Doves for the past week and as usual its grown on me. I've always liked the Doves since their first CD so I've tended to have high expectations when their next 2 CD's came out. But after a thorough listening (repeated numerous times on the ipod) I can now give it a solid 'Coldbrains41' recommendation.
Check out scenestars.net for a much more insightful review and an mp3 of one of my favorite tracks, One of These Days. My other favorite tracks are Some Cities, Almost Forgot Myself, Snowden, and Walk in Fire.

AdJab Superbowl Ad Blogging
So far (and the game is almost over) my favorite is the simple ad for Bud Light where the skydiving plane pilot jumps out after the six pack of Bud Light. Ah subtle humor. Did you like that one Cathy? Or were they too busy showing Pacifico commercials in Guadalajara?
UPDATE: Damn, I was pulling for the Eagles. But congrats to the Pats...and all New Englanders who LIVE in the New England area and weren't just born there before moving to Los Angeles. On the plus side, the Pats didn't cover the spread so I no longer have to get a tattoo (the result of a pre-game Double-or-Nothing bet with Dave from the 909 - I lost a superbowl tattoo bet years ago when the Raiders lost...just been REALLY slow in getting my tattoo).
By the way, after weeks of contract negotiations with his agent, 909 Dave, aka FUN Dave, will be guest blogging here in the near future.

“secret” Beck show in LA

Tickets on sale 6pm at the door,

Doors open at 8pm. 21+ over
So I get my good friends...we get there early...we get tickets aplenty...we get excited. We walk to Roscoe's...we eat chicken and waffles...we are happy. We walk back to 1650...we stand in line...I realize I lost my ticket...I'm not happy. I search my pockets...I search my wallet...I search my car...I am a jackass. I drive home and bitch on my BLOG while Beck plays his secret show. I wish it was even more secret so I didn't know about it at all.
Atleast I had chicken and waffles.
[UPDATE: Thanks to Pam and Becky I was able to see a few pictures from the show as it was happening as well as listen to about 4-5 songs via Becky's cellphone. Thanks guys! That was the second best thing to NOT losing my ticket. And Becky said there will be another not-so-secret show at 1650 in the near future...with a pre-sale and everything.]

Band of the Day: Grand National
I've been listening to this CD for the past week and I think its time to share its greatness with y'all. It comes close to reminding me of the Kings of Convenience remix CD Versus which I find immensely better than KoC's original material (well, its atleast less depressing). Like Versus, Grand National has a bass/beat heavy sound that plays below mellow vocals. Actually, listening to their voices right now (on the track North Sound Off) their vocals almost sound like the Police.
Sample their songs in their Audio/Video Section - I recommend Drink to Moving On
So is this an official genre now? Indie Dance Music or something like that? I love South and Franz Ferdinand and bands that are "indie" but definitely make their audience move their feet. The new Ian Brown CD Solarized kind of fits in this category too. I've always liked the UNKLE tracks he does vocals on. I should have been a bass player.
